From Hobby to Catalog: Doctor’s Choice × mutantfarmer

Part 1 covered the breeding: two recessive traits stacked in one plant, 350+ seeds per line, autoflowering mutant cannabis strains selected at under 5%, both lines taken to F5. That work needed a way to reach growers. That’s where Part 2 begins.

From Be a Breeder to the Commercial Catalog

Be a Breeder is a Doctor’s Choice program created to help independent breeders develop their lines and bring them to market. mutantfarmer completed the entire process: as a program participant, he developed and stabilized both mutant lines, while Doctor’s Choice handled production, seed increase, and commercial release. This is the first collaboration of its kind in the program’s history — and a planned stage in its evolution: from one breeder’s hobby project to a full lineup in the catalog.

The first collaboration releases — Freaky Ryder (auto) and Fast Crazy Bastard — were shown at Mary Jane Berlin 2025; next, at Cannafest 2025 in Prague, the limited-edition regular Freaky Fast F1 BX appeared. Now the full lineup of new releases is dropping, in regular and feminized versions. The feminized versions of the Freaky line (Freaky Ryder, Freaky Dankenstein) are released with the support of Seedsman — one of the oldest and largest players in the global seed market. The entire Bastard line (Bastard Ryder, Fastberry Bastard), both regular and feminized, is released and distributed exclusively through Doctor’s Choice.

The Drop: Six Mutant Cannabis Strains, Two Lines

The lineup is built symmetrically. Each line has an autoflowering base derived from Lowryder and fast-flowering versions.

Freaky Line: Fern-Leaf Mutant Cannabis

Freaky Ryder — Auto Freakshow. Genetics: Freakshow F9 (7East Genetics) × Lowryder IBL. Stabilized to F5. A compact autoflower, ~70–75 days from seed to harvest, with the pinnate fern-leaf, a sweet floral-coniferous aroma and dense buds. It is the base of the line — both a strain in its own right and the autoflower parent for the next step. Available in Regular; the feminized version is released with support from Seedsman.

Freaky Fast F1 BX — a fast-flowering fern-leaf. Genetics: a backcross (BX) based on the mutant autoflower fern-leaf line and Lowryder; the exact formula is not disclosed. The third Be a Breeder release, a limited regular, was released at Cannafest 2025 in Prague. It proved itself outdoors at around 50° latitude: it survived hail, rain, and cold, resists mold and pests, and turns purple in the cold.

Freaky Dankenstein — the most ambitious release of the line. Genetics: Freaks of Dank (7East Genetics) × Freaky Ryder. Type: fast flowering, photoperiod; finish around 70 days. Both parents carry the stabilized fern-leaf mutation, reinforcing the pinnate leaf expression. Terpene production is very high: a profile of fuel, pine, and floral notes with citrus, pepper, and gas. From its Freaks of Dank mother it inherits strong resistance to mold and powdery mildew, plus cold tolerance. Available in Regular; the feminized version is released with support from Seedsman.

Bastard Line: Australian Bastard Cannabis (ABC)

Bastard Ryder — Auto Bastard. Genetics: Drunken Bastard (7East Genetics) × Lowryder IBL. Stabilized from F1 to F5. It is an autoflower with a cycle of ~70–75 days from seed to harvest. The plant expresses the Australian Bastard Cannabis leaf phenotype: small glossy segments like those of a succulent; the bush does not read as cannabis. It has a tart berry-and-fruit aroma with a blueberry note, and in some phenotypes a sharp garlic-sour edge at the finish. Stress- and mold-resistant. A pick for stealth growing on balconies and terraces, for guerrilla outdoor growing, and for collectors of mutant genetics. Available in Regular and Feminized — exclusively through Doctor’s Choice.

Fast Crazy Bastard — a fast-flowering ABC. Genetics: ABC Crazy Crosses × (Drunken Bastard × Lowryder). The second regular-seed Be a Breeder release, shown at Mary Jane Berlin 2025. Here, the strain combines two ABC-carrying lines — ABC Crazy Crosses and Drunken Bastard — using Bastard Ryder as the breeding background, so the mutant leaf comes through strongly. Photoperiod, fast cycle; the vegetative phase lasts a little longer than classic strains, then moves into flower cleanly.

Fastberry Bastard — Genetics: Blueberry Bastard F4 (7East Genetics) × Bastard Ryder. Type: fast flowering, photoperiod; finish ~60–65 days. Both parent lines are independently stabilized ABC, so crossing two lines homozygous for the mutation gives a guaranteed 100% ABC leaf across the F1 offspring, with no selection. Terpene levels are very high: a creamy blueberry-yogurt profile over an earthy base; in the cold, purple hues are possible — a typical ABC reaction. The most compact and berry-forward in the lineup. Available in Regular and Feminized — exclusively through Doctor’s Choice.

From Hobby Project to Mutant Cannabis Catalog

Two mutations from opposite ends of the earth, found decades apart, were introduced into a single Lowryder-based breeding platform — built around the strain that helped establish the commercial autoflower category — and advanced through F5. The result is six strains in two lines created for a specific purpose: they look nothing like cannabis but grow and flower like cannabis. And, unlike the original mutant lines, they are finally easy to grow.
