Freaky Dankenstein: breeding logs
Breeding logs / 2025–2026
Freaky Dankenstein is a photoperiod F1 hybrid of selected Freaks of Dank mothers and Freaky Ryder. These five logs follow the mother selection, cloning and first regular seed run, then the start of a commercial feminized F1 seed run on clones of the same mothers.

Some Assembly Required
Freaky Dankenstein belongs to the Freaky range, released through the Be a Breeder program as a collaboration between Doctor’s Choice and mutantfarmer. Its name combines Dank, from Freaks of Dank, with Frankenstein.
The mother line was Freaks of Dank from 7East Genetics. According to 7East, it came from a multistep backcross involving Mac1 (Cap’s cut), Rare Dankness #1 and several males from the original Freakshow. Selection at 7East lasted more than a year.
The father was Freaky Ryder, mutantfarmer’s autoflowering line. Both parents carried the Freakshow leaf mutation.
Freaks of Dank is photoperiod, so the selected mothers were preserved through clones.
Picking the parents
Joint Doctor and mutantfarmer chose the genetics for Freaky Dankenstein and agreed on the cross together.
In 2022, mutantfarmer crossed Freakshow F9 from 7East Genetics with Lowryder IBL, starting the Freaky Ryder line. Among more than 350 F2 seeds, six plants combined autoflowering with the Freakshow leaf. By early 2025, he had advanced the line to F5 seeds.

Spot the Difference
In mid-October 2025, young Freaks of Dank plants stood in small square pots on a tray in the tent. The fern-like Freakshow leaf was already visible, with narrow, deeply cut segments.
By late October, the plants stood in larger square pots on trays, arranged in three rows. In early November, they had grown enough for their canopies to almost meet.
By late November, the plants had become large bushes and their differences were clear. Some had bright, light-green leaves; others were much darker. Some were dense and spreading, while others were stretched, with sparse canopies and long internodes. Their tops ranged from short, dark bunches of leaves to long, narrow leaf segments.
The mothers were selected from these plants. Cuttings were the next step.
Log 03 / Cloning · December 2025–January 2026
It’s Alive
In early December, cuttings were taken from the selected plants and placed in the cloner.
The lower stems had been cleared of leaves, with several fern-like leaves remaining at the top. Each cutting sat in a neoprene collar, arranged in rows across the cloner lid.
The cut branches showed the Freakshow leaf clearly, with long, dark-green segments.
The mothers finish flowering
After cuttings were taken, the selected plants were moved into flowering and had finished by late January 2026. Each selected plant was therefore preserved in clones while the original could be assessed in flower.
In early January, the mothers had dense flower clusters covered in trichomes. By late January, pistils on one plant’s top had turned orange, with fern-like leaves remaining around the flowers.
The clones take root
The clones had rooted and grown in the meantime. By late January, about two months after the cuttings were taken, they were in vegetative growth in a tent under LED lighting, each in its own pot and tray with drip irrigation. They carried the same fern-like leaves as their mothers.
These clones were destined for the first seed production run.
Log 04 / P → F1, regular seeds · March–April 2026
Young Dankenstein
In March 2026, the Freaks of Dank clones were flowering in the tent. Freaky Ryder was the father in this run.
The plants grew indoors under a 650 W LED with drip irrigation, in Terra Aquatica soil and grow bags, using Powder Feeding Hybrids and Terra Aquatica nutrients.
The canopy closes
By late March, the tent had a closed canopy. The central flower clusters were covered in trichomes and their pistils had begun to turn orange.
By early April, the pistils had darkened and some leaves had begun to yellow.
The regular F1 seeds
In mid-April, seeded flower clusters from the run were photographed in the studio. The cut tops were photographed individually against a dark background, and the close-ups showed seeds inside the calyxes.
The first seed production run was complete and had produced regular F1 Freaky Dankenstein seeds.
A test fem batch
A test batch of feminized seeds was made alongside the regular batch. Its recorded germination rate was 95%, but emergence was slow, taking up to 10–14 days.
What comes next
Following that test, a commercial feminized seed run was started on clones of the same mothers. The next log follows its beginning.
Log 05 / P → F1, feminized seeds · September–October 2026
All-Female Cast
The second seed production run was intended to make a commercial batch of feminized F1 seeds. The cuttings rooted in 8–10 days, and ten rooted cuttings were planted in soil in mid-September 2026.
In early October, the clones stood in large fabric pots, each on its own tray. They were still small and carried the same fern-like leaves as their mothers.
At this recorded stage, the next planned step was to move the clones into flowering.
