The Australian Bastard Cannabis (ABC) mutation was first described in wild hemp populations of New South Wales in the 1970s. The trait is recessive: the ABC leaf is small and glossy, lacks the serration characteristic of cannabis, and has thin palmate segments—closer in shape to clover, boxwood, or a succulent than to a classic fan leaf. Plants stay short and dense, with many thin, flexible branches. This morphology makes the bush resemble an ornamental shrub rather than cannabis.
Drunken Bastard from 7East Genetics is one of the few fully stabilized ABC lines, with every phenotype expressing the mutation.
